Last week, the community was forced to come to grips with a senior citizen who passed away during an unfortunate motorcycle accident on Royal Palm Beach Boulevard. Just as tragically, a much younger adult lost his life in another motorcycle crash last Saturday, July 2 on Interstate 95.
While the identity of the individual has not yet been released, we know that he was an 18-year-old man traveling south on the always-busy I-95. Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the young man was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries, where he was later confirmed dead.
The incident reportedly took place at 5:15 a.m. While the final destination of the motorcycle driver was not yet known, it is possible that he was simply getting a head start to beat traffic on an often-used roadway. His Yamaha motorcycle ended up striking the rear of a Chevrolet Impala, as the 18-year-old was unable to reduce his speed.
The impact resulted in him being flung from the Yamaha, landing violently on the roadway. The driver of the Impala remained on the scene, and reportedly was fully cooperative with the authorities. No injuries were believed to have been suffered by the other driver, or by any other parties as a result of the accident.
Southbound lanes on Interstate 95 near the Sheridan Street exit were shut down for several hours because of the fatality.
The accident that claimed 77-year-old Lawrence J. Poliquin’s life last week appeared to be caused by lingering debris on the roadway, which his motorcycle ran over.
