A car accident took place in the early morning hours of June 18 that impacted three people in the respective vehicles, as well as countless other family and friends.
Riviera Beach police officer Carl Johnson was on duty during the evening hours of June 17 that rolled into the morning of June 18. He was behind the wheel of a 2022 Dodge Charger but was involved in a crash at the intersection of 13th Street and Australian Avenue, north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Johnson was traveling south on Australian Avenue while a Hyundai was heading north on the same street. The Hyundai intended to make a left turn on West 13th Street, doing so just as the Dodge Charger came into view.
The front of the Dodge smashed into the passenger side of the Hyundai. Both vehicles veered off to the shoulder of the road.
It was confirmed at the scene that the driver of the Hyundai and one passenger had been killed in the accident. Johnson was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Even though the incident occurred within the territorial jurisdiction of Riviera Beach police, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. This is likely to avoid any conflicts of interest with Johnson involved in the matter.
Lytal, Reiter, Smith, Ivey & Fronrath is saddened to hear about this event and hopes that Johnson is able to make a full recovery.
