A 28-year-old Road Ranger from Pembroke Pines was fatally struck early Wednesday morning in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 95 near the Hollywood Boulevard exit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred around 3:37 a.m. when a BMW X6 SUV, driven by a 45-year-old Miami woman, failed to slow down and collided with a Honda Accord sedan ahead.
The impact caused the BMW to veer into an express lane, where it struck a Ford F-250. The F-250 then collided with two FHP vehicles that had their emergency lights activated.
The Road Ranger was standing between the patrol cars at the time and was pronounced dead at the scene by Hollywood Fire Rescue.
The southbound lanes of I-95 were temporarily closed for investigation and cleanup.
The FHP is investigating the crash to determine its exact cause and any contributing factors.
The Road Ranger’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
