A man riding his bicycle on the afternoon of Nov. 2 was fatally struck by a Brightline train in Pompano Beach after attempting to navigate around the lowered crossing arms.
The accident occurred in the 300 block of North Dixie Highway. Witnesses confirmed that safety signals were active and functioning at the time. Reports indicate the bicyclist tried to pedal around the crossing arms, which were down to signal an approaching train. The northbound train struck the man, launching him from his bike.
Following the collision, the bicyclist was found underneath a 2010 Toyota Corolla and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
